Countries that start with D (2023) | Ratepunk

There are only 4 countries that start with the letter D at their beginning and 6 if we also count the ones that start with democratic, which is a small proportion of the country names!

Denmark

Denmark is for sure the first country that comes to mind when you think of countries starting with the alphabet ‘D’ and is definitely the most tourists of all, although the most expensive one. Denmark is also the only country in Europe that starts with the letter ‘D’.

Denmark is a flat country that does not have any mountains, which might seem like a disappointment, but as many residents of the country use bicycles for transportation, it is not very bad to be flat! Interestingly, more than 75% of cyclists use bicycles in the winter as well.

Denmark has two of the oldest amusement parks in the world, great aquariums, and super clean water, both for drinking and swimming. Maybe these are the reasons that Denmark is always on top of the list when it comes to happiness.

Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is the oldest country in America! It was first discovered in 1492 by Christopher Columbus. The capital city, Santo Domingo, is the first capital city in America that contains the first University, the first Catholic Cathedral, and the first Hospital.

The national sport of the country is baseball, and there are many talented baseball players, such as Sammy Sosa, Pedro Martinez, and David Ortiz, who are from this country.

This country is mostly protected by ecosystem environments. Around three to five thousand whales come to the shore of the Dominican Republic to give birth every year from January to March.

Dominica

Dominica, the island with 9 volcanos, is definitely not the Dominican Republic! It is worth mentioning because usually when people hear the word Dominica, they immediately think about the Dominican Republic, or maybe sometimes vice versa. However, the Caribbean island of Dominica is quite far from the Dominican Republic.

Talking about volcanos, Morne Diablotins is the highest volcano here and is situated in the middle of the jungle. You can climb it as it is currently safe, but it will take you around 6 hours, which is worth it because you will see many different species of animals and plants on your way.

Here nature is beautiful, there are beaches, jungles, rivers that go through them, and volcanos. Whale watching is an amazing activity that can be done here, and one of the Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed here.

Democratic Republic of Congo

The second largest country in Africa is one of the countries that start with the letter ‘D’. This country borders nine countries, has 200 ethnic groups, and has nearly 250 languages. This country also hosts the oldest national park in Africa, which is home to rare mountain gorillas, elephants, and other animals.

The country is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of mineral resources but still has a very poor population. Also, there are ongoing conflicts in the country between different groups, and it is not considered to be safe to travel to.

Djibouti

Djibouti is the smallest country in Africa and is located near the Red Sea. For a very small country, Djibouti has different kinds of nature, such as salt lakes, deep ravines, and extinct volcanoes. This country is the host of the lowest land in Africa below sea level and has 314 km (195 mi) coastline lies. Also, 90 percent of the country is covered in the desert, so probably not the best country to visit.

Visiting Djibouti might not be recommended, but this country has some attractions. Here you have the possibility to swim with the whale sharks, the biggest fish in the world, which can be a very interesting experience to have. Also, you have the option to visit the wildlife at Decan wildlife refuge, where many different types of animals are kept.

Democratic People’s Republic of Korean

The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, better known as North Korea, is the last country on the list that starts with the letter ‘D’. Although the country starts with Democratic and therefore has been chosen to be on our list, but it is a dictatorship and is not recommended to be visited by tourists.

This country has many interesting and shocking facts that are very different from the rest of the world. To start, this country has its own rules for basketball that are different from the rest of the world, for example, if you score in the last 3 seconds, you get 8 points. There are only 28 websites on the internet and only 3 channels on the television. Also, North Korea has only 28 haircuts that are state-approved, and people can use them. Furthermore, as the country is under difficult sanctions, it is not easy to access oil, so there are cars that burn wood as their fuel to function.
