Kelingking Beach Nusa Penida - Complete Guide (2023)

How To Get To Nusa Penida From Bali?

There is only one airport at Bali, Ngurah Rai Airpor. From there, you can travel to Sanur Port and continue your journey with a fast boat ride to Nusa Penida Island. If your arrival time does not coincide with the fast boat departure schedule, spend one night in Bali and continue your trip the following day. Check out our recommended places to stay in Bali

The fast boat service is available from 7 am to 5 pm and takes around 40 minutes. It is recommended to buy your ticket online to guarantee your seat.

The tickets will cost you around 13 euros.

Kelingking beach

Nusa Penida has many spots with astonishing views that can mesmerize a person but the Kelingking beach (Also called the secret point) is the most famous spot on Nusa Penida island and also one of the most beautiful spots in Bali!

The main reason for its fame is the fact that the cliffs at this spot resemble a Tyrannosaurus Rex (T-rex) dinosaur drinking water from the ocean. The head of the dinosaur is set on the left side of the cliffs and its body and tail lie on the right side.

How to get to Kelingking beach?

There are many ways to reach Kelingking beach and generally go around the Nusa Penida island itself. Many people choose scooters for this purpose and the main reason is the price. Scooters are cheap and can be rented for 5-10 euros a day. However, the roads on this island are simply terrible and are full of stones and bumps so riding a scooter is not going to be comfortable. Besides not being comfortable, it is also going to be dangerous. A lot of accidents have happened to people riding scooters here.

The other option would be to rent a driver with a car a. Having a driver does not sound bad because you are going to have an A/C conditioner which is very useful in the warm weather of Bali. Also, you are way safer and more comfortable than scooters for sure! But, the price of having a scooter and a driver is not comparable. For a driver, you should pay around 40 euros for a day.

Going Down to Kelingking Beach

Although there is no need to go down the cliff to be able to admire its beauty and even from above, the view is fantastic! But in case you would like to go down the cliff to the beach, you can. Just remember that it is not going to be an easy task to complete.

The path of going down is very narrow and only fits one person, so in the case that while going down, you meet a person coming up the stairs, you both need to compromise to pass alongside each other. As for the stairs, there are not as well-made stairs as one might think. The road is pretty bad and there are rocks that you can use instead of stairs which will do the job, but they can get pretty hot, so it is not possible to walk on them barefoot. In this case, make sure you are wearing proper shoes, not sandals for instance! There are also ropes on your right and left side that you can grab and help yourself while going up and down.

Considering all this information, make sure you have enough stamina to climb down and of course, climb up the path because always climbing up is going to be harder than climbing down for sure! If you want to see the cliff from down and do not have the stamina to go through this path, you can always rent a boat and arrive at the bottom from the beginning, but still, it is noteworthy to mention that the view from above is quite satisfying.

What to do if you reach the down part of the cliff?

Kelingking Beach has perfect white sand and azure waves, making it incredibly lovely. The beach is significantly larger than it appears from above, and there is a sizable strip of sand here. The best way to see Nusa Penida's west side in peace is definitely to descend to the beach as you can not see and feel its beauty from above.

After descending the seemingly endless flight of stairs, you can find the cave at the far end of the beach where you can take amazing pictures and sit and enjoy the view with some drinks and snacks.

It is not forbidden to swim at this place but it is also not recommended to. Waves can be very strong and dangerous here and they have hurt people before, so only hit the water if you are confident in your swimming skills.

Where to stay near Kelingking beach?

There are 3 hotels that are very close to this spot and can be great choices for staying overnight if you have plans to stay.

The first option is Kelingking Sunset Point Hotel & Spa which is a 2-star hotel. This hotel has a swimming pool and each room has its own terrace and shower. The hotel is not a luxury stay but it definitely meets the basic requirements for staying at a place with a low budget.
