Dates of stay Aug 1-8. Pros- The food was decent. Beach was nice. The landscape of the property was beautiful. Cons- The room we stayed in was outdated and not very clean. Asked the front desk for additional soap and toilet paper, we received the soap but no TP. Had to go to a bathroom at 11 pm near the main lobby to get TP since they never brought to us. Service at the pool bars were extremely slow and bar tenders not very friendly, seemed disengaged. Service at Barefoot was slow. There were only 6 tables occupied . Our server asked us how our meal was when we were almost finished and never returned to ask if we wanted another drink or dessert. She was more interested in chatting with fellow co- workers. We won't be returning to Antigua Sandals, but may check out another Sandals property in the future

My wife and I just returned from Sandals Grande Antigua, where we celebrated our honeymoon. We stayed March 4-12, 2023. We splurged on this romantic couples resort (stayed in the Sunset Bluff pool walkout room), and were very happy with our resort choice and overall experience. This resort lived up to its 20 years of "most romantic" awards, and we will certainly be trying more of the Sandals resorts in the future. We are 38 and 40, and did find others in our age range (maybe 10%), but found the age demographic was typically 50-65. Highlights were the staff, the postcard perfect beach views, the quality food and beverage, and the 3 restaurants with amazing sea views, especially at sunset- these were: Bayside, Barefoot and Eleanors (rack of lamb with jerk spice here was one of the tastiest things - other food highlight was the carpaccio at the sushi restaurant). The stunning resort scenery both day and night were also beautiful, with daytime reminders of being in Hawaii, and at night, fire-lit romantic seating throughout. Great local nightly entertainment also. Once in Antigua, on our Sandals drive from the airport, we met a couple who were returning guests to this resort- they had been to numerous Sandals, and were returning to this one as the standout for them were the staff! And we agree! While I had read mixed reviews about the staff and other issues- rest assured travelers- we were constantly impressed by the happy and friendly staff, and further, almost every negative thing I had read and worried about in reviews, was actually a non-issue or my experience was the opposite. ***Note that the poor reviews below are potentially fake (Ex. Written by basically anonymous people who have only written a single review- suspect!). We loved how welcomed we felt, how easy everything was for check-in etc. We had just visited a decent resort in Mexico where things were not so smooth, where even communication with staff can be frustrating- not at Sandals. Everything was relaxing from the start. The resort was at 96% capacity but felt like 50% capacity the whole time - that's impressive! A few thoughts for management who obviously strive for perfection: I would have loved to have been able to pre-book a beach cabana, like you can at the pool (or simply book a specific beach table and sun beds for the week, at a cheaper fee than a full butler reservation). I woke early to reserve the specific seat I wanted, and just read my book on the beach, but would have paid for this upgrade (though a butler is not of interest). Another note- huge fan of the resort's food, and especially jerk chicken- though I noticed the recipe at Barefoot actually changed come the weekend (on Saturday and Sunday it wasn't as jerk spicy and was more gravy-like (though I really enjoyed the jerk chicken daily Mon-Fri). Similarly, I found the Bananas Foster French Toast at Eleanors lacked the rum flavor on the weekend. At the beach, while the seaweed on the beach is not a deal breaker, we enjoyed the beach and water more when it was cleaned up. If staff and scheduling were organized better (Ex. much more staff working over a shorter working period, and starting earlier, like 25 people working 6am to 7am instead of 5 all morning - just guessing here), I believe it would be possible to clean the entire beach daily by an earlier time so it is enjoyed for longer, as opposed to cleanup lasting through the morning or day. Diligence would also make sure the sea doesn't recapture the seaweed by high tide, which happened once or twice. We did have quite a few perfect beach days, and I'm sure they could all be perfect with planning. The rooms were great, and well serviced with 2 visits per day. The one thing I found that could be updated in the room was the TV software- it didn't even have a functioning TV Guide - but the TV was barely used anyway. Not sure if it's typical of Sandals resorts, but the bed was very tall, even having a step stool. I'm nitpicking, but I have to with how great the resort is... thank you Sandals team.
