The hotel is only 10 years old but a lack of proper maintenance is evident, starting from the beach straw parasols , toilets with doors broken , mold in the toilets lights no working, cats hanging around , long time to get hot water on the showers , lack of working equipment in the gym, lack of same glasses , napkins dirty and with holes, long waiting for everything no stress moto , etc etc. ||Food is average for a 3 starts hotel. No expectations no wow factor. Also running out of products very often. We been told that it’s normal as it’s an island and they don’t produce anything, but when you are in a 5 start hotel and they charge you for that they should have a good organisation, food a beverage planners need to anticipate the necessities. We were in The Level and over there food is better , we have premium drinks, Romina the manager there were super helpful,||Thank you to her our holidays were much better and enjoyable. ||The beach is average. Much better in Santa Maria town rather than the one of the resort. ||In conclusion this one is the worse Melia 5- starts I’ve ever stayed. Melia should improve a lot and keep the standards if not just put 3-4 starts to the hotel so nobody will complain. Right now it’s just lying to us and taken our money. ||||

Curiosity took us to Cape Verde and I am pleased we visited.||The January weather was perfect. 26C every day and a lovely wind.||Hotel was spacious and clean. Most staff enthusiastic. A nice mix of nationalities among the guest base.||Room was large, clean, and had everything we needed including a reliable WiFi and great coffee from the machine. Only snags were a weak shower with blocked drain. Balcony looked out onto the workers’ entrance courtyard and the smell of the communal bins meant we couldn’t use it for long. Brilliant view of sunset though.||Beach amazing. Great free beds. Not crowded. Fantastic swimming areas. Too many cigarette ends the only spoiler. Stunning beach if you walk 1 mile south down the beach beyond Ponta Preta.||Pool area was great and the outdoor bars looked good.||Food at the main place was buffet. Decent choice. Quality adequate. A snag was it was usually lukewarm so the way around it was to queue for stuff being cooked in pans (or fried on hot plate). Staff in the main eateries were highly efficient clearing tables.||I heard it was a challenge to book the a la carte restaurants so didn’t bother.||Pool bars were well stocked but as usual for all inclusive you were not getting established brands.||Santa Maria is a charming town. EUR 5 for a Joe Maxi but walkable in 40 minutes.||TIP: Don’t run out of sun cream. EUR 20 for a bottle in the resort and even in the little supermarkets in the town. Stuff isn’t cheap in the shops that tourists use.||Overall a great holiday for people wanting to chill.
