So, it is the conclusion of another season in Cyprus. For me, considered an elderly resident, predominately it means the conclusion of my regular visits, solo or entertaining friends at “The Deck” the superlative restaurant at The Alion Beach Hotel. Superlative not only in the context of its elevated outdoor setting overlooking the mediterranean, its encompassing ambient atmosphere, its pinnacle of culinary execution but also the exceptional level of professional service laced with a warm human touch as provided by all of its staff led by the food and beverage manager Yiannis and also Vassilios. This year, in recognition of my declining years and in particular to avoid the lengthy return journey to Larnaca, I have chosen to add to my The Deck visits by making a reservation for an overnight stay. This is now my monthly routine and I consider myself truly blessed that at The Alion Beach Hotel, devoid of glitz but the ultimate in its achievement of realising a refined and understated environment seemingly forever pursuing the art of being pre eminent or to quote an unknown reference - “Style is one of those elusive and indefinable qualities which distinguishes pre-eminence from mere excellence.” or here is another “Understatement rather than over-emphasis, the subtle rather than the obvious, and the modest rather than the pretentious.’ Robert Dallas - all apply to the Alion Beach. You can no doubt imagine dear reader, this is actually not only a fulsome recommendation at every level but also a thankful appreciation that there exists in Cyprus the Alion Beach Hotel with its The Deck Restaurant and its outstanding team spearheaded by the manager Michael Panacos and the assistant manager Pieros Giatrou - what a team. How often does one actually know the names of those who occupy these elevated positions let alone experience their constant presence and most especially their interaction. In all my travelling throughout the world I have never experienced such a unique duo. Thank you Alion Beach and ALL the staff who uniquely manage to exhibit an air of collective responsibility delivered with enthusiasm, commitment and warmth; you immeasurably contribute to my days in Cyprus.
