We recently stayed at the Mercer and were generally very disappointed. While it claims to be five star, it lacks the service and amenities typical of luxury properties. The details in our room were quite basic (although the bed was comfortable), with no view, and several of the tiles in our shower were broken/wonky (indicating a general lack of attention to detail). It’s near-impossible to drive to the hotel as well, so be prepared to lug your suitcases up multiple cobble stone streets upon check-in. The pool is essentially a bird bath for pigeons, and is small / covered in bird poop - I definitely wouldn’t have gotten in it, so be prepared for that. The location is good overall, and is walkable to many attractions. However, worst of all, the service was abysmal. We were charged for an extra room that was accidentally booked, despite the hotel having vacancy throughout our stay. It felt as though the hotel was far more concerned with squeezing every penny they could out of us rather than ensuring we had a nice stay, which would be expected at a lower category property - but certainly not 5-star service. I would not recommend staying here unless you’d like to spend 5-star price and get 3-star service, at best. We won’t be returning.
