Like other recent reviewers have mentioned, unfortunately the staff of this hotel seems to have a problem with attention to detail. Beautiful building in a great location but the service - housekeeping in particular - definitely has room for improvement. When I checked in, the telephone in my room was broken, desk lamp lightbulb needed to be replaced, the bathtub drain was clogged, the bath/shower combination itself is an obviously terrible design and water spills onto the floor every time you use the shower, and the much-vaunted mini-bar was empty. It took multiple requests - and 2 1/2 days - to get the minibar stocked. The phone and lamp, at least, were fixed right away, but the issues with the bathtub/shower seem to be here to stay. Staff is pleasant but ineffective and/or unresponsive. Come on guys, seriously, these issues are things that should be caught BEFORE a guest checks in. Housekeeping is indifferent at best, cleaning standards are so-so and it’s a 50/50 shot as to whether requests to replace soaking wet towels (thanks to aforementioned shower flooding issue) will actually be addressed. No room service in the mornings, which is a strange absence in a “luxury” hotel. Are any of these issues earth-shatteringly dire? Of course not. Would I be so nit-picky if this were a Hilton Garden Inn? Nope. But look, if you’re the kind of property that’s going to charge the equivalent of $17.50 to launder a blouse, you really should also be the kind of property that brings your A-game when it comes to details like fixing things, cleaning things and following through on housekeeping/maintenance requests (better still, eliminate the need for such requests). Wi-fi works well, gym is small but decent with updated equipment, lobby is stunning and the Victorian-era details of the building have been beautifully restored. Room is wonderfully spacious - bathroom is not. Room furnishing choices are a bit odd – it’s almost like the designer gave up halfway through the job and just walked away. There’s no dresser, nor drawers in the closet, so if you’re the kind of person who likes to unpack and settle in, you may be out of luck. The only real mirrors in the room/bathroom have no proper electrical outlets near them so ladies, you might need to do your hair drying and styling in the reflection of the TV screen. Not critical issues by any means, but one does get the sense that the design and furnishing of the room was a bit slapdash. A note to guests in the summer: There is air conditioning, but it most definitely does not reach the 18°C indicated on the panel. The room is too warm for me as it is but if London were experiencing one of its heat waves right now, staying here would be untenable. Happily, I was able to secure a very good rate so these niggling, cumulative issues are merely disappointing and annoying. If I had booked using the rates they are currently advertising on their website, I would be a bit more disgruntled than that. I expected a much higher level of service from a hotel that claims to be in the luxury category. I leave day after tomorrow and will enjoy the rest of my time here, but probably wouldn’t rush to come back. Is the Victoria Clermont OK? Sure. Is it great? IMO no, sadly not. Such a shame because this gracious, beautiful building has so much wonderful history and potential, and is ideally located.

Stayed at the Clermont Victoria with my family for 5 nights. Excellent location, only a few minutes walk from Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben. Also right next to Victoria Station where we could jump on the Underground in minutes to get anywhere in the city. Spacious room which was nicely appointed, large bathroom, all the amenities required for a pleasant stay. Highly recommend the property.
