I think the best way to pleasantly surprise yourself is by picking a random hotel mainly for the location, only to find out that the rooms are so nice and the restaurant is also pretty good. My girlfriend thinks I did a lot of research and picked a really cool hotel but I was only going by location. But the rooms turned out to be so nice, modern and the services are great. One very notable thing is that sound proofing is great. We didn't hear anything going on outside despite being on just the 4th floor. The room we stayed in was very spacious. It was a corner room because we got the biggest possible room but I don't expect other rooms to be that bad. The building however has higher residential floors so guest rooms aren't that high unfortunately. The city-life views from my room were great but you need to get to the rooftop if you want to see the skyline. The true best thing about this hotel is how close it was to Southwark station, which is on the way to Westminster and other touristy tube stations for people on holiday. Even better, just a couple trains to Heathrow terminals through the Elizabeth line. One picky comment: they had all these sun-blocking curtains around the room but in the mornings, the bathroom's door's glass let all the sunlight in from the bathroom to your bedroom anyway, which cannot be blocked out. Quite an oversight in my opinion on whoever picked that frosted glass door. Also it may arguably be on a pricier end, but hey, it's the middle of London.

Shiny new hotel in a convenient but remarkably quiet location. While the ground floor is painfully hip in the evening, the rest of the building is very comfortable with excellent design. I was in a "snug" room which was perfectly adequate in size for a couple of nights, and indeed was bigger than some London hotel rooms I've been in. The bed was super comfortable and there were even a few interesting books in the room. Breakfast was excellent - freshly made and very tasty. Receiption staff were brilliant - friendly and efficient. Immediately stopping whatever they were doing to address the clients at the desk with a bg smile, something that many other hotels should learn from. I had a delicious cocktail in the rooftop restaurant, again with fantastic staff. Only request would be to remove or put the curtains to the side so we could enjoy the amazing view. Only off note was the ground-floor hostess looking around the almost empty restaurant/bar area at breakfast and telling me that guests are recommended to book tables for breakfast. There were at least sixty open covers, and I have never been told that by any of the many hotels in which I've stayed. I will definitely be returning as I really like this new entry to the London hotel scene.
