I stayed at the Hotel New Otani Garden Tower and the one overriding factor that made my stay most memorable and perfect for this hotel is the Japanese Garden ! It is simply awesome !!!!! I didn’t expect this from a hotel right in the heart of the city! Usually you would find such a beautifully curated Japanese garden only in Ryoken hotel not in a business hotel ! Just this alone would entice me to come back to this hotel again ! There is also a small chapel right in the middle of the beautiful garden that conducts Sunday service in English and Japanese (8.30-am to 9.30|Am) and is open for daily devotion at the same time ! ||Arrival|I took the limousine bus that stopped at the main hotel. It was a long walk to the garden tower but to my surprise the lady who greeted me at the lobby entrance did not offer to get a bell boy to push my luggage to the Garden Tower . Being part of the same hotel chain, I believe this should have been done. So for those travelling like I do, check if the baggage desk at the main hotel lobby could arrange for your luggage to be pushed to the Garden Tower. When I left I asked for this service at the desk and a bell boy came to pick up the luggage from the Garden tower where I stayed . The walk from the Garden Tower to the limousine bus pick up area can become a challenge if you have large luggages especially after all the shopping in Tokyo! ||Room condition|The room is dated but clean and spacious . It doesn’t have usb port and not many power plug so come prepared for this with your own device, multi ply etc . You probably could get it from the hotel at request |It has a bath tub which is great for a soak after a day of walking about in the city .||Front desk service |The front desk service is your expected standard politeness but not always perfect. I was asked what newspaper I wanted by the gentleman who served me at the check in counter but it never came and I had to ask again the next morning before this was done dutifully for the rest of my stay. The command of English is quite good for most service staff but at times I was not quite sure if they fully understood what I said but on the whole it is acceptable ||Housekeeping ||Housekeeping was your expected standard although I was surprised that my room mate who wore the hotel robe and left it on the chair, this was not folded back the next day|If you found the room too warm, you can ask for a fan and switch off the heater . ( thought it was aircon but this is not the case as the hotel only has heater)||Room view - not much if yours is not the garden view . Although mine overlooks the city partially and has a beautiful sunset scene. The garden view would probably cost more to stay||Location - Perfect ! There is a station near the hotel 5 mins walk - the Asakasa Minseki station and it has the Marounichi and the Ginza line which takes you to many key places in Tokyo within 30 mins ||Other amenities - there is a supermarket on the ground floor ( opens at 9 am and closes at 7 pm). There is also a family Mart on the second floor that opens at 7am to 10 am. Along side this is Coffee Tully which is a good alternative if you don’t want the hotel breakfast ! The hotel has also many restaurants and cafes that serve all types of Japanese cuisine but don’t expect it to be cheap. Please make reservations though because there are many patrons even thought the price is not your average ones . I tried to impromptu go for a yakitori meal but was told they were fully booked ! . ||If you are taking breakfast/ lunch buffet at the lobby level cafe ( Trader Vics ) ask to seat by the window( the middle one as you have a stunning view of the man made waterfall and the Japanese garden)

Over the past eight years my family and I have reserved multiple rooms each year at the New Otani when visiting family and friends in Japan. The staff has always been helpful and friendly, restaurants and shops convenient, and the price reasonable for a luxury hotel in Tokyo. ||This year, though, was quite different. We noticed fewer staff at the reception area to handle visitors, and after 9PM there was nobody available in the lobby area. Quality of the rooms had declined and services reduced (e.g., no more mini-bar in the guest rooms). We found this turn of events quite sad, but not as sad as what we experienced toward the end of our stay.||This trip we reserved two room for ourselves, and invited guests that reserved an additional two rooms. Because of availability issues, our guests were only able to reserve one of their rooms through the last night of New Year's Eve. Thus, they would have to share one room for the last night. We asked for two twin-bedded rooms so that they would have separate beds to share one room on their last night. The hotel mistakenly gave them king-bedded rooms. Father and son, for obvious reasons, didn't want to share a king-sized bed on the last night. ||So we asked the New Otani to provide us one additional room on the last night because of the hotel's mistake. We were offered a room smaller than our other rooms at a price 45% HIGHER than our originally reserved rooms. I asked if they could at least keep the price the same as for our previously reserved rooms. The answer was "no, this is a busy time". I responded that we needed the additional room only because of the hotel's mistake with the original reservation. The answer was still "NO". I then asked if it was worth it to the hotel to lose a loyal, annual, multi-room client because of a JPY 16,000 ($112) dispute. They apologized but said there was nothing they could do. I then responded this was my last visit to the New Otani.||Though the New Otani has served us well over the years, there's certainly something wrong with the hotel now. Given the many newer hotels that have opened throughout Tokyo I highly recommend you consider another hotel.
