We based our decision to book this hotel based on the reviews and have learned never to trust it again. The travellers who gave this resort 5 stars obviously have never been to a genuine 5 star resort before such as the Marriott or Le Meridien. The hotel ruined our holiday and my 50th birthday with many issues, service standards by some staff not up to scratch and simply too many problems and issues when compared to world class resorts such as the Marriott and Le Meridien. EVERY single staff member at the Marriott were polite, friendly, professional and never spoke behind your back the moment you turned around unlike this hotel. ||||We booked through Luxury Escapes, upgraded the room to a Deluxe Jacuzzi Room and paid extra, stayed for 10 days and was given one of the worst rooms in the resort that was dark and had no views of anything whatsoever. I made a request for an upgrade or at least be allocated a decent room given I chose to celebrate this special occasion at their resort but was not even acknowledged until I responded to the email I sent them during my stay. Granted, they sent me a note to the room stating that we could move up a level to another room with a view the next day but we had already fully unpacked and did not appreciate that they did not even consider this before we arrived. ||||The Free flow drinks and Lunch/Dinner package - Not dissimilar to using a cheap Groupon meal at a restaurant, you are made to feel like a freeloading cheapskate with the general attitude of senior staff when you present the voucher to claim the free drinks and meals. The senior staff members (2 of them) at the pool bar had a bad attitude from the start, never smiled and it seems like they were doing us a favour when they serve us. I will not name them as I do not want them to lose their jobs and they did improve towards the later part of our stay. However, I have never been treated this way before at a 3 star resort, let alone a 5 star resort. I will never ever book this option again and warn others to avoid it unless you have a thick face and want to be made to feel unwelcome. However, I must say that the young waiters there were very friendly and polite. It's just a shame they are lead by senior staff who do not set a good example. ||||Room:||||* Air con was not working from day 1 - took 2hrs to fix.||* Reception - phone number not listed on phone and was told it was '0' when I walked there to ask!||* No electrical socket in bathroom||* Lack of popular cable channels on offer||* Mosquitos in the room every single night despite our windows and doors closed (Housekeeping had doors open during the cleaning). Was bitten EVERY SINGLE NIGHT - look at photos. Every other guest was seen scratching their legs too!!!||* The in-room safe malfunctioned and wouldn’t open and I had to wait a full hour, where 3 maintenance staff worked on it, eventually drilling open the safe. I had to be in the room the entire time!||* Room service finishes at 10pm||* Not everything is replenished when room service is done such a vanity kit or tissues. ||* On one occasion, I had to take the pillow covers off the pillow to ensure they are changed. ||* The sink was blocked on the final day.||||Food:||||* Breakfast: Lacks variety of the competition - send a manager to look at Marriott/ Le Meridien.||* Staff were excellent at Breakfast so please commend every single one of them.||* Croissant - tastes like bread. Did not improve for the entire stay. Again, go to the other resorts to see how good their croissants are!||* Fried eggs pre-cooked - cold||* Poached egg was cold||* French toast cold||* Some coffee mugs stained at bottom||* Lacks variety||* The good at breakfast - good selection of juices, homemade bread, cooked to order omelette and soup noodles. The Asian food selection always changed. ||||Lunch/Dinner||* Set menu - The options were extensive and divided up into Western and Asian menu. The food was a bit hit and miss where some dishes were quite good and others simply missed the mark by a mile. Do yourself a favour and DO NOT order the steak.||||* The Khao Pad (fried rice) was swimming in oil and simply put, their Thai dishes were very poor quality. Walk out the resort and ANY local restaurant did a better job. ||||* The curries were watered down as was the Tom Kah Gai and there was simply no excuse for that being their hometown dish.||||There were some nights where they had a themed night buffet and the upside was the you did not have to pay extra to have it but the al la carte was not on offer. The buffet selections were limited and basic. There were many bland dishes and the BBQ buffet would have to be the worst bbq themed buffet I have had in my life. I feel bad for the people who had to pay 700 Baht for it. The BBQ portion consisted on a prawn, squid and vegetable skewer and grilled fish portions and ribs. No steak and no chicken. The condiments were bland as were the desserts. ||||Two nights later they had a Thai themed buffet and every single main dish was bland, Incredibly, they had ribs on offer at the Thai buffet that was left over from the BBQ buffet as it was dry as cardboard. ||||They had live performers on some nights but they were not great. To add insult to injury, The La Flora Resort, who has their restaurant less than 20 metres away and had excellent singers whom were clearly audible if you sat in the right 5 tables closest to their resort. It was comical to hear two live bands as once and envy the one from the other resort. ||||Pool:||* The pool was very clean.||* No towels provided at the pool.||* No poolside service like proper 5 star hotels. You had to walk up and order at the bar!!!!||* Their loss as this would have easily been a steady income stream and reflects the absolute incompetence lack of business acumen by management. They could have made so much more money if they had a menu at the sunchairs as well as a flag or button to call staff for orders. ||||Good||* Good selection of drinks - free flow drinks (Luxury Escapes)||* Good selection of courses for lunch/dinner (Luxury Escapes)||* Beach access||* Hardly any children||* Most staff were friendly - Marriott ALL staff are friendly and helpful. Some staff did not acknowledge you, had a sour face all the time and some outright had a bad attitude. ||There are many friendly staff such as Nook who was at the door during breakfast, Prag, the chef who always smiles and is very friendly as is the tall older gentlemen in the kitchen who goes out of his way to say good morning to you. Byte was also very hospitable. ||||Bad||* Some of the senior staff at the pool feigned friendliness while gossiping behind your back. Their insincerity became apparent, on a daily basis everytime we approached them for service. Their cold response along with an impatient annoyance on their face and tone. A particular staff member surely did not make us feel welcomed the at the beginning of our stay (just as well his name tag was blank) and only had 'Ramada' on it. On multiple occasions, he would take our order only to turn around to other staff and say something under their breath in Thai in front of while they peered over to see if you caught them talking about you. We were disgusted by his bad attitude and total unprofessionalism. However, they did improve during the stay although I doubt there was genuine sincerity towards us. ||* Some of the younger staff members at the Sassi restaurant don’t have a basic grasp of English. By this we mean, asking for tomato sauce or even ‘ketchup’ only to be met by blank looks. Asking for the next course garnered a similar reaction. This is down to inadequate training and poor management as some of they were very polite.||* Ordered the tenderloin steak medium rare and was served a piece of meat that certainly wasn’t a tenderloin nor medium rare.||* The third course was not served and when asked about the status of it, we were told it would come in 2 mins. What was served looked like it was prepared in 2 mins, oddly shaped compared to other nights and obviously been slapped together last minute.||Pool towels supplied to the room always had some red or brown stain on them. ||* There is a mosquito plague at the entire resort and we were bitten by the pool at the bar, restaurant and in the room. Tip to management - spray the gardens in the morning like Le Meridien as the mosquito problem is out of control. We could see hotel guests continuously scratching.||||Spa/Massage:||* Ana - do not book her if you want a firm massage. My wife normally has massages that are less firm and even she had to ask her to put more pressure into her massaging. Maybe because it was free that the effort was not there. I had Tani and although much firmer, was quite insignificant. ||||Tips for Guests:||* Seriously consider what you want before you book. If you have never stayed at a 5 star resort before, you will probably like it. However, if you are use to the Marriott, then don’t bother. The hotel is not all bad as the beach access is good, and the pool is clean but don’t expect a great breakfast or multiple options for dinner. The service all round does not reflect that of reputable resorts. You could see on numerous occasions that the staff were bored, unfriendly and had an attitude that looked like they would rather be somewhere else. ||* The resort is accessible to many local restaurants, convenience stores and a night market on the main roads. Don’t be fooled into only eating at the resort.||* Book your day tours at LaFlora (next door) if you want the pick up at the portable jetty.||||I wrote to the manager - Non - during our stay and granted, they took the feedback seriously. They had a word with the Food and Beverage manager regarding our experience and decided to fumigate the entire resort when I informed them many many guests had been bitten non stop. They also agreed to a late checkout at no extra cost.||||However, incredibly, on our last day at the resort, the staff at Sassi managed to get the one of the drinks wrong, on of the first courses wrong and we did not even get the third course. Mind you, there was only two of us!!! ||||I was not going to post a review and simply email the manager with my feedback as the manager had made changes but this was the last straw. ||||This resort has so much potential but it seems management are content to rest on their laurels and not be up to speed with whats happening not only to their competition but even the hotel next door! ||||I will never stay at another Ramada hotel/resort again given so much inexcusable disappointments that ruined an important occasion.

Wow, what a magical spot this hotel is in. Khao Lak is an hour north of Phuket but still within reach of all activities, has its own night market within walking distance of the hotel and a huge choice of dining out options. The hotel has a boutique feel and the staff were outstanding. They have created a very personal and warm environment. The rooms were large, beautifully furnished and the bathrooms extremely big. Couldn't find fault. There is a balcony/terrace for all rooms that look out on the gardens and towards the sea. We stayed for 5 nights and I wouldn't hesitate to return here.
