We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at the Claremont, staying two nights. The room was clean and comfortable with one drawback, there was only one chair at the desk. Having two chairs by the desk to view the bay and SF skyline or to be able sit together for morning coffee would have been perfect. We were greeted with friendly smiles at check-in where we informed the clerks it was our 50th anniversary. They invited us for the saber champagne which we partook. The man who sabered the bottle was entertaining and informative. Going in to dine, we were given a red carpet treatment. Our waiters Jon and Ahmed (?), and the restaurant manager went the extra distance making sure we were well taken care of with each dinner. Angeline served us at brunch and she was a delight. The food was excellent! We ate too much! We also enjoyed the informative tour that the concierge, Jennifer, gave us.
We just got back from our one night stay at the Claremont Club & Spa, celebrating the New Year. The experience was horrible. I could not wait getting out of that room to get home. Is it really a 4-star Fairmont Hotel? The price is definitely there but neither the hardware nor the software matches the star rating. The room is small, old, smelly with paint chipped and stains on the couch/chair and on the wall. It's just not inviting at all. The sound insulation was terrible with the noise coming either from the hallway or from upstairs. Spa seemed to be separate from the hotel. One cannot charge it to the room and the service was inconsistent. My husband had a great massage but mine was like chicken scratch. The room service people were the highlight of the stay. They were nice and friendly but our room was missing a bath robe and slippers. The food at the Limewood restaurant was not bad but definitely on the heavy side. The dinner does not come with bread, which did not surprise me nowadays. However, the only bread one can order was the rolls with bone marrow spread. I noticed on the menu that there was one dish coming with sourdough. So I asked our waiter if we could get some sourdough bread. His response was curt: "No, you can't". And when I asked for some fresh pepper and salt, our waiter brought out salt and pepper shaker bottles. For a restaurant like this, I consider both behavior unacceptable. Needless to say, we won't come back.
