We decided on the Westin Hotel based on location, sitting in the heart of Times Square. It was a perfect base for exploring Manhattan, a little confusing as we entered the hotel from the cab ride from Kennedy Airport. There is a desk that could double as reception, but it isn't its a security desk, so on entering, remember to take the escalator up, which brings you to the lobby. The lobby is very large with plenty of seating. Around the lobby area is a shop as well as the Foundry bar/restaurant (ill come back to the bar) we queued briefly before being checked in by a truly lovely lady called Christine, she was extremely informative and gave us a fabulous room (maybe on account it was my 50th birthday) she advised us that as part of the deal we get $30 per day per room to spend in the restaurant or bar, plus on one days stay we get an additional $20 to use which wasn't to bad at all. We headed to our room on floor 34 on entering. we saw it was a corner room with superb views of the city, including 42nd Street, the Empire State Building, etc. The room itself has the usual facilities such as wardrobe, safe, ironing board and iron, large 50 inch HD TV, work desk with office chair plus a lounge chair, we had a very large King size bed with really fluffy pillows, our son had a fold up bed which was equally comfortable, and situated at the far end of the room so he had privacy as did we, coffee making facilities are in the room but for a tea drinker like me your out of luck, there is no refrigerator in the room, we was told we can hire one at a cost of $20 per night? The room was like a sauna when we entered with the in room heating system cranked up high. Once turned down, room temperature was very comfortable, beds were extremely comfortable, and a good night's sleep was had. Now to the restaurant, I'll keep this brief. It's ridiculously expensive, so don't count on your $30 going too far! I ordered a pint, which is actually 12oz, a bottle of Corona, and a plastic half cup of diet coke, when he tilled it up my bill was $35.37? For three drinks!! He hit me with a service charge of $5.99 he hardly spoke and literally spent less than 30 seconds with me absolute joke, I tip when service dictates it was that good $5.99 for nothing is insultive. All in all room superb, comfortable and has everything we need, location superb, bar & restaurant a complete rip off avoid!

I stayed in a king corner room with skyline view. I was told it was one of the recently remodeled rooms. It was very nice, but not large. 1 chair, 1 desk chair, nice desk, safe, many plugs and a nice closet and bath were all great. Towels are super soft, perhaps the softest hotel towels I ever encountered. Views were excellent and the windows opened slightly if you wanted to hear the NYC noises ( sirens, horns, you know the sounds) Elevator service up and down was surprisingly fast. Check in was fast and easy. Staff were super friendly including cleaning folks. Room had everything I require EXCEPT a refrigerator. The minibar fridge which won't let you even cool a single water bottle of your own was NOT working. I resent having a pay fridge that I can't even cool my water in or stick a small leftover in for later. That was the only major strike for this hotel. A second smaller strike was having room service "temporarily suspended". It would have been nice if this had been mentioned at checkin. At 10 pm, having settled in and looking forward to some calorie rich room service food, I found out there was none. I had to get dressed again to go to Times Square to look for food. That brings me to location. This is a great location. A block off Times Square and restaurants of every description were everywhere. Also, due to the proximity to the tourist site, the area was very busy until very late, which made me, as a single female traveler, feel more secure as there were always people around and police were visible every block or two. I can't comment on parking but cab was easy to call using the Curb app. Price wasn't too bad for the room and it is a Marriott property so I got my Bonvoy perks. . A good value and very nice- just wish I could have a fridge.
