The issues started right when we arrived. I pulled up to valet and needed a minute to decide what was coming into the hotel with me. I had been traveling all week for work and our stay at the Viceroy was meant to be a little luxury the last night before heading home. Before I had even put the car in park the bellhop was in the trunk grabbing bags despite that I asked for him to give me a moment. When I told him I was only bringing in an overnight bag and could get it myself he got an attitude. It was very clear he only raced to my trunk for a tip, not because they were aiming for fast service. The same bellman gave me an attitude for the duration of our time at the hotel, which was especially galling because parking is $60 a night. Also, throughout our stay there were approximately 4-6 people in security uniforms standing around chatting and blocking the entrance to the hotel. That’s in addition to the others that were in the parking lot and the security hut. While they were perfectly nice people, I do not understand the need for having this much security on the property at a given time. This might explain why this hotel is so exorbitantly overpriced. Upon checking in, we were told we were “upgraded” to a partial ocean view room. We got to the room and the heat was pumping and the room had an horrible, dusty odor. We both started having a bad allergy attack. The windows and sliders were FILTHY - like they had never been cleaned. You could clearly hear blaring music, cars, trucks and motorcycles loudly passing on the main road outside. This was NOT an “upgrade” and makes zero sense considering that the hotel was completely empty. It was a Friday night and there must’ve been less than a dozen rooms occupied. We asked to be moved back to our original room facing the back of the hotel which was more of an ordeal than it should have been. Our original room was not as dusty or stifling but, the rooms in this hotel are not as advertised. The beds are stiff and uncomfortable and the drapes and rugs are dated. That evening, we tried to watch TV and kept getting an error messages that the TV was not connected to the internet. We really wanted to watch a movie so I called the front desk. They said they would send up someone from engineering. The person who arrived was perfectly nice but didn’t know the first thing about tech or connecting the TV to the internet. They said they would have to “call the company” and that this has been happening in many rooms in the hotel. I asked if there was any chance it would be fixed tonight and he said no. I told the front desk the next day that someone from engineering came to look at our TV the evening before but was unable to fix it, and he shrugged and with no apology.” I would bet the TV in Room 419 remains broken for months. A hotel being clean and comfortable is most important to me, but at almost $600 a night I also expect to be (at a minimum) treated like a customer and not an annoyance. With the exception of the lovely woman in the Cafe, the Viceroy Santa Monica fell short on all markers. Earlier in the week I stayed in a hotel two blocks away for half the price (for work) that was cleaner, more comfortable, and had a more helpful and accomodating staff. This was my first and last time staying at a Viceroy hotel. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

My friend and I stayed at this hotel for the Taylor Swift concert and it was the worst experience of my life!!!! The entire hotel staff went on strike and protested from 6am-7pm everyday!!! There were so many protestors that we had to be escorted off the property by police. The manager told us we would be credited 50% of our stay and they never gave us a dime! We have been trying to get our money back for over a month and still not a penny! I’ve never been to a hotel and treated so horribly and had such an awful experience. DO NOT STAY HERE!
