Best Area to Stay in New York for Families

Looking for family hotels in New York City can be daunting, especially with the high prices. Even the smaller hotels tailored for kids come with a significant cost. But don't worry, this guide is here to help you find the best value for your money. Although finding "cheap" family accommodations in NYC is challenging, this guide lists a variety of excellent options. From budget-friendly choices to spacious suites and even hotels with pools for kids, you'll find the perfect place for your family stay in New York, all in great locations. Let's start exploring the best family hotels in NYC!

Which New York’s Area Should You Choose For Family Holidays?

As a travel expert, I recommend considering various neighborhoods in Manhattan when planning a family trip to New York City. While Manhattan is a prime location due to its abundance of attractions, don't overlook the other boroughs for more affordable family-friendly options.

The Upper West and East Sides, near Central Park, are excellent for families. The Upper West Side has a residential charm with brownstones, while the Upper East Side is more upscale. Both areas are close to family attractions like the American Museum of Natural History and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. More info about galleries and museums in New York

For those seeking the quintessential NYC experience, Midtown West and Times Square are bustling with energy, showcasing billboards, street performers, and Broadway shows. This area is perfect for first-timers, though it can be pricey and crowded.

Midtown East, adjacent to Times Square, offers a corporate atmosphere with landmarks like Rockefeller Center and Empire State Building nearby. It's a good choice for families who want proximity to attractions but prefer a less chaotic environment.

Chelsea, the Flatiron District, and Union Square are trendier neighborhoods with cobblestone streets and charming cafes. They offer a mix of shopping and dining options, with reasonably priced hotels and easy subway access to major attractions.

Greenwich Village, south of Chelsea, is known for its picturesque streets and historic charm. It's a great choice for those who've visited NYC before and seek a different experience, with iconic spots like the Friends Apartment building.

Basically, not long ago I covered Safe Areas to Stay in New York For Tourist [with hotel recommendations] - it has covered already mentioned areas and gave some hotel recommendations that are also great for families. :)

Moreover, the choice for hotel depends on many factors : seasonality, comfort, booking time, the need of the market, etc. So the best way to secure the fairest hotel prices is by using hotel price comparison tools such as RatePunk, or having RatePunk memebership which gives the insider rates - prices that are hardly find on the internet:)

In New York City, families on a budget have a wealth of activities to choose from. Central Park offers playgrounds and scenic walks, while the Staten Island Ferry provides free rides with stunning views of the Statue of Liberty. Many museums, such as the Museum of Natural History, have free entry days. Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge offers breathtaking city vistas. The New York Public Library hosts children's events, and Bryant Park offers seasonal activities like movies and ice skating. The High Line provides unique city perspectives, and street fairs and festivals abound year-round. Families can also enjoy beach days at Coney Island and attend free TV show tapings for a unique NYC experience.
