LOT Polish Airlines vs Lufthansa : Which is Better?

HUBS AND DESTINATIONS

LOT Polish Airlines is the national airline of Poland. It started in 1929, making it one of the oldest airlines still flying. Warsaw Chopin Airport is the primary hub for LOT Polish Airlines and KrakĂłw John Paul II International Airport is a focus city. LOT's destination count differs but includes a mix of regional and international destinations across Europe, Asia, and North America. Notable destinations include Tokyo, Nairobi, CancĂșn, New York, Chicago, and Toronto.  Check LOT Official website, if you want to know more about their destinations and flights.

Our well known Lufthansa, on the other hand, is from Germany and is even older, starting in 1926. It’s one of the biggest airlines in Europe. Lufthansa has major operations in Frankfurt and Munich. As of January 2024, Lufthansa serves 17 domestic destinations and 196 international destinations in 72 countries. This includes a wide range of destinations across Europe, North America, Asia, Africa, and South America.

BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE

When it comes to carrying your belongings, both LOT Polish Airlines and Lufthansa have their own set of rules. Starting with cabin baggage, if you're flying economy with either airline, you're allowed to bring one carry-on bag. The weight limit is 8 kg, which is about the weight of a hefty cat, and it should not be bigger than 55 x 40 x 23 cm – think of a small suitcase or a large backpack.

Now, if you're flying a bit fancier, like in business class, LOT might let you bring a bit more, while Lufthansa definitely allows two pieces of carry-on, each up to 8 kg. So, if you like to pack extra, Lufthansa's business class might be more up your alley.

Checked baggage is where things get a bit more generous. In economy class, both airlines are quite friendly with your luggage. LOT usually allows one bag up to 23 kg. Lufthansa has the same deal for their economy passengers.

But, if you're indulging in premium economy or business class, the perks increase. With LOT, you might get to check in two bags, depending on where you're flying to and your ticket type. Lufthansa, on the other hand, consistently offers two bags at 23 kg each for premium economy, and ups the ante to 32 kg per bag in business class. And for those in the lap of luxury in first class, you can bring three bags, each up to 32 kg, which is quite a bit of packing space!

In summary, while both LOT and Lufthansa are pretty accommodating with your travel essentials, the specifics depend on the class you're flying and sometimes the type of ticket you've purchased. Economy flyers get a fair deal on both airlines, but if you're a heavy packer or just like having extra options, Lufthansa's premium classes offer more baggage.

IN-FLIGHT EXPERIENCE

Starting with LOT Polish Airlines, imagine boarding one of their Boeing 787 Dreamliners for a long-haul flight. You'd find the seats in economy class pretty standard in terms of space and comfort, nothing too fancy but comfortable enough for a long journey. Now, when it's time to kill some hours, you've got a personal screen with a decent selection of movies, shows, and games. And the food? It's a nice mix of Polish and international flavors, usually hitting the spot. As for the crew, they’re professional – you might not get a super chatty flight attendant, but they'll make sure you’re taken care of. And if you need to stay connected, Wi-Fi is there, though it might cost you a bit extra (like in many other airlines).

Switching over to Lufthansa, stepping into their cabin, especially if you're flying business or first class, feels a bit more upscale. The seats are ergonomically designed, which is a fancy way of saying you’re going to be pretty comfy, even if you're stuck in economy: a vast library of movies, TV shows, and more at your fingertips. The food is a step up too; think high-quality meals that cater to a bunch of dietary needs. And the service? It's top-notch. The flight attendants are not just professional; they're genuinely friendly and attentive. If you’re flying long-haul, you can log into their Wi-Fi, FlyNet¼, and choose a plan that suits your needs.

To sum up, LOT is like that reliable, no-nonsense friend who gets you where you need to go with a touch of Polish hospitality. Lufthansa, on the other hand, feels a bit more like that friend who loves to host and make sure you’re extra comfortable and well-fed.

Choosing between LOT and Lufthansa comes down to personal preference and priorities in air travel. If you're seeking a comfortable, straightforward flight with a touch of Polish charm, LOT is your go-to. But if you're looking for a bit more luxury, particularly in terms of in-flight service and amenities, Lufthansa might be the better choice for your journey.
