Ratepunk Review: Is It a Scam or Legit?

In this review, we will cover the Ratepunk extension, how it works, and whether it is right for you.

What is the Ratepunk extension?

Ratepunk is a browser extension that can save money by automatically searching and displaying live prices for thousands of hotels worldwide.

With over 200,000 users, Ratepunk is a great option, especially since it is entirely free to join.

Ratepunk works with the following:

  • Chrome
  • Safari
  • Firefox
  • Edge
  • Opera

There are a lot of money-saving apps out there. But according to Express.co.uk, Ratepunk users' savings can jump to 50%.

After you get to the hotel’s page on the online booking agency (no matter which one), Ratepunk extension will automatically pop up, displaying prices on other booking websites found at the moment. In addition, it will show the possible savings (99% accuracy).

It also works on iPhone, but at this stage, the app is still in development, so the desktop version is way better and more convenient.

Is Ratepunk Legit?

Ratepunk is a legitimate company based in downtown Lithuania.

The founder has been always working with travel tech, so when he noticed the price differences that booking websites offer to travelers, the idea of Ratepunk immediately came up.

Automating the process of finding the lowest price for every hotel without manually navigating and comparing prices on various providers was his initial idea.

From there in 2021, RatePunk grew to a 20-people team in 2024, and is steadily turning into an ultimate travel platform.

Besides the fun story, there are other things making Ratepunk actually trustworthy. These are some of the coverages:

  • CNBC: Booking, Agoda or Expedia? A review of 200,000 hotel searches shows which has the best rates
  • Forbes: Here Are The Surprising Things Travel Companies Are Doing About It
  • Express.co.uk: Cheap holidays: Expert tips to find the best deal 'savings can jump to 50%'

How Does Ratepunk Actually Work?

First, you need to download it for whichever web browser you use most.

Once installed, a small Ratepunk icon will appear on your browser and pop up every time only on the hotel booking site you visit.

You don’t have to click the icon to activate the scanning process, as it will automatically list other online travel agencies showing prices (from lowest to highest) for your wanted hotel.

It’s easy to set everything up because you don’t have to create an account or sign up for anything. And Ratepunk also doesn’t collect any of your personal data, including email address, credit card info, etc.

Other features in the extension

Word cloud. Maybe review cloud would make more sense. But anyway, sometimes hotels have thousands of reviews. And to read them all… not the best option. All these reviews are narrowed down to highlighting the most common positive and negative things said about the hotel.

RateScore. Ratepunk scans hotel ratings on Google, Booking.com, Tripadvisor, Agoda, Expedia, and a few other providers. These ratings are aggregated, meaning, they are automatically summed up and averaged to only one score for clearance.

Safety around property. Some hotels can have outstanding ratings but can be located in unsafe areas. RatePunk's safety around property index shows exactly how safe (risky, safe, very safe) area is around your chosen hotel.

Every time when the extension pops up you can also activate price tracking. These are pretty much all things you will see on the extension whenever you're browsing any hotel booking site.

A Few Tips

If you have ad blockers on your browser, it may prevent Ratepunk from working properly. However, you can simply disable your ad blockers and refresh the page to get it working.

Make sure to get updates, so you are using the current version. This will allow you to get the most out of the extension.

Is Ratepunk Worth It?

If you book hotels online frequently and want an easy way to save some money without having to hunt for a fair price yourself, you should try Ratepunk out.

It’s completely free to use, and even if it saves you a few bucks here and there, it’s still worth it.
