Norse Atlantic Airways Baggage Fees- All the Details

Have you noticed that it’s getting harder to find cheap flight tickets? I bet you have. In May, European airfares experienced a 36% increase compared to the previous year, as reported by ACI data. Simultaneously, the eurozone witnessed a 6.1% inflation rate during the same period. Nevertheless, there are some new low-budget airlines in the market.

Shortly about Norse Atlantic Airways

Established in 2021, Norse Atlantic Airways was a Norwegian-based airline specializing in providing budget-friendly travel options. With a focus on long-haul flights covering transatlantic routes, they successfully commenced operations on June 14, 2022, by facilitating the transportation of passengers from New York to Oslo. Last month the airline revealed its decision to relocate operations to Miami International Airport (MIA).

Norse Atlantic Airways prioritizes customer satisfaction by offering a variety of economy seating choices that cater to different preferences. Their primary goal is to ensure a comfortable travel experience, accompanied by excellent service while maintaining affordable fares for their passengers. It sounds similar to Frontier Airlines, isn’t it?

In its relatively brief period of operation, this emerging airline has successfully launched several long-haul routes.  Norse Atlantic Airways currently operates flights to prominent destinations such as Los Angeles, New York City, London, and various other cities across the United States and Europe.

Norse Atlantic Airways Baggage Allowance

Budget airlines often apply charges for carry-on bags. (We wrote about baggage allowance across different airlines some time ago; you can read it here). The luggage price depends on the type of flight ticket you have purchased. It's important to note that even when traveling internationally, checked luggage may only sometimes be included when flying with budget airlines: Economy light or Premium light tickets don't include checked bags. Economy Classic / Flextra or Premium Classic travelers can pick one standard checked bag (23kg/ 50lbs), and Premium Flextra can have two standard checked bags (23kg / 50lbs).

In case your ticket does not cover baggage, it is advisable to review the pre-booking prices to make an informed decision:

  • A standard carry-on bag weighing up to 10kg / 22lbs costs $25.
  • A standard checked bag weighing up to 23kg / 50lbs costs $70.

Remember that if you pay for baggage at the airport, the prices and fees tend to be higher.

Norse Atlantic Airways Ticket Upgrades

Like many other low-cost airlines, Norse Atlantic Airways offers upgrades for economy class:

  • Economy Light. When you choose the standard fare with Norse, you gain access to their basic flying option - Economy Light. This includes a standard seat, allowance for one under-seat bag, in-flight entertainment, and a power socket. Additionally, you have the flexibility to purchase food and beverages during the flight, and if needed, you can make changes to your itinerary for a nominal fee.
  • Economy Classic. In addition to the 1 under-seat bag, this option grants you an additional carry-on luggage allowance of 10 kg / 22 lbs and a standard checked bag allowance of 23 kg / 50 lbs. Moreover, a complimentary meal is included during the flight, and if desired, you have the option to purchase extra in-flight food and beverages. Furthermore, this type of economy flight provides flexibility, allowing you to make changes to your reservation for a fee.
  • Economy Plus. This upgraded option includes the same luggage allowance and a meal as Economy Classic, seat selection, priority check-in, and boarding privileges, as well as the flexibility to change or refund your flights.

If you desire an elevated experience with Norse Atlantic Airways, take a look at their premium seating options available on their flights. You'll have the opportunity to select from three distinct tiers: Premium Light, Premium Classic, and Premium Flextra.

  • Premium Light includes one small under-seat bag, one carry-on 10kg/22lb bag, two meal services, premium boarding, priority check-in,  and the flexibility to change or refund your flights.
  • Premium Classic has every upgrade as Premium Light, adding a standard checked bag of 23 kg / 50 lb extra.

Finally, Premium Flextra is an even more posh upgrade. It includes a seat selection option, a small under-seat bag, a carry-on 10kg/22lb bag, two standard checked bags (23kg / 50lb), two meals, premium boarding, priority check-in, and a ticket that can be changeable.

On Board Norse Atlantic Airways Flight

Seating. Based on passengers' reviews, the new Boeing 787 Dreamliners employed by Norse Atlantic Airways have a minimalist yet pleasing interior design. Norse has aptly named these aircraft "longships" to align with their Norse branding. These planes can be compared to those operated by major airlines, as they offer a similar experience.

The seating arrangement on these planes follows a 3x3x3 layout. The seats were quite comfy, provided 31 inches of pitch, and measured 17 inches in width. Naturally, if you need more space, you can upgrade your regular seat to Economy Plus or even Premium fares, as they provide additional room and comfort.

Entertainment. In contrast to certain budget airlines, Norse Atlantic Airways provides passengers with a small flatscreen TV at each seat. Additionally, a USB power port is available, allowing you to charge your smaller electronic devices. The selection of movies is okayish, but you can always download some movies before the flight.

Summarizing Norse Atlantic Airways

If your flight can be taken from one of Norse Atlantic Airways hubs, you should try out this low-budget airline service. Despite being a “young” company, Norse Atlantic Airways has already positioned itself as a reliable option for budget traveling. The company offers affordable prices, satisfactory in-flight services, and operates modern minimalist aircraft.

Based on passengers’ reviews, there are a few drawbacks: delays, limited route options, and has received mixed reviews regarding their customer service. These are areas where the airline still has room for improvement. Well, Rome wasn’t built in a day, so I believe that they will improve it!
