Nomad and RatePunk are both built to get you a cheaper flight, and they ask you for opposite things. Nomad wants a list of cities you want to see. We want the airport you fly out of.
So the question is not really which one is better. It’s which one fits your needs best.
Let’s look at what each does, what it costs, and where it stops working, so you can tell which of the two is for the trip you are planning.

What Is Nomad from Kiwi?
Nomad is a multi-city trip planner from Kiwi.com. You give it a starting city, a list of places you want to visit, and how many nights you want in each, and it works out the cheapest order to visit them in. Every other multi-city search prices the order you typed. Nomad treats the order as the thing to solve.
- What you get - one itinerary covering the whole trip, often built by combining airlines that do not sell connections together, which turns up city pairs no single airline offers. You can give a range rather than a fixed number of nights, so “three to five nights in Lisbon” is a valid input.
- What it costs - free to search. Kiwi adds a service fee at booking that it does not publish until checkout, and the Kiwi.com Guarantee, which is what covers you when a leg goes wrong, is a paid add-on on top of that.
- Where it stops - the cheap combinations come from separate tickets, so you collect your bags and check in again at each transfer, sometimes clearing immigration to do it. If the first leg runs late, the second airline owes you nothing. Kiwi says this itself: carriers “are not obligated to provide replacement flights if their disruptions mean you won’t make your next flights.” Southwest is absent entirely, under a 2021 injunction, so US domestic routing has a hole in it.
What Is RatePunk?
Where Nomad asks for a list of cities, RatePunk asks only for your home airport. RatePunk keeps track of what flights from your home airport usually cost, and we alert you when one drops below that price. You don’t need to choose a destination first. You can browse the available deals or filter them by destination in the app.
- What do you get when you have no list of cities? You get the fares that have dropped from your home airport, whatever the destination, and RatePunk shows them in the mobile app, on the web dashboard, and in deal emails and alerts. Our app groups those fares into themes (Beach, City Break, Long-Haul, Trending, and Last Minute), so you can pick a kind of trip before you pick a city.
- What do you pay when a Nomad search costs nothing? Seeing the deals takes a paid RatePunk membership. We have no free trial, but a 14-day money-back guarantee covers your first purchase.
- Where does RatePunk stop being useful? We can’t promise a deal for a trip whose dates and destination are already fixed, because we find cheap trips rather than a cheap version of your trip. RatePunk doesn’t sell tickets as Kiwi does for a Nomad itinerary, so you book with the airline or a travel site.

Key Features: How Nomad from Kiwi and RatePunk Compare
The two tools sit on opposite sides of the same problem. One decides the route once you have decided the places. The other decides the places.
Feature | Nomad from Kiwi | RatePunk |
| What you type in | A list of cities and how many nights in each | The airport you fly out of |
| Who picks the destination | You do. Nomad picks only the order | The price does. You see the destinations where the fare costs less than usual |
| When you get an answer | While you are searching, and not after. There are no alerts | When a fare from your home airport drops, by deal email and alert, whether or not you are looking |
| Who sells you the ticket | Kiwi, often as separate tickets on airlines with no connection agreement | Not RatePunk. You book with the airline or a travel site |
| Cost | Free to search, with a service fee at booking and an optional paid guarantee | A membership |
Savings Potential: Who Delivers More Bang for Your Buck?
The two savings are measured against different things.
Nomad’s saving is against the same trip in a different order. Researchers who ran Kiwi’s own data across 577 European airports found that combining airlines this way does come out cheaper than a normal connecting itinerary by a statistically significant margin, and they never put a percentage on it. What the same work did measure is the cost on the other side: between 88.8% and 95.1% of those itineraries had longer connections than the traditional alternative, and the gap ran over six hours in most of them. Nomad’s saving is paid for in hours.
A saving on a RatePunk deal is against what the route normally costs, which is a different baseline again. Our web dashboard shows that baseline on each deal: the regular price for the route, the current price, and the savings.
Nomad costs nothing until you book, and then costs a service fee you cannot see until checkout. RatePunk charges for a membership before you book anything, and the booking is between you and the airline or a travel site.
User Experience: Ease and Reliability Head-to-Head
Nomad is quick and the interface is good. You add cities, it returns an itinerary, and the map makes the shape of the trip obvious. Almost nobody complains about the planner.
The complaints are about what happens after you accept the itinerary, because Kiwi is the one selling you the ticket. On Trustpilot, Kiwi.com holds 4.0 out of 5 from more than 200,000 reviewers, but the reviews are split: 61% of them gave five stars and 24% gave one. The Better Business Bureau recorded 140 complaints against Kiwi in twelve months, mostly about refunds and about self-transfers that only became apparent after payment. That is a rating of a booking and refund operation, which is a harder thing to run than a search box.
RatePunk holds 4.2 out of 5 on Trustpilot from more than 7,500 reviews, and our reviewers are rating the membership service. The airline or travel site you book with handles the reservation. We do not book tickets.
Pros and Cons: Weighing the Strengths
Each one is good at the job it was built for.
For Nomad from Kiwi:
- Pros: it solves a problem nothing else solves, because Google Flights and Skyscanner price the order you type rather than finding a better one. It reaches city pairs no single airline sells. It is free to try, and it replaces an afternoon of comparing permutations by hand.
- Cons: the saving comes from separate tickets, so a missed connection is your problem unless you paid for the guarantee. Connections run long. The service fee is not visible until checkout, and Southwest is missing.
For RatePunk:
- Pros: we give you fares to choose from when you do not know where you want to go, which is the one case Nomad cannot help with at all. Once you do have a place or a month in mind, the RatePunk app has filters for destination, travel dates, trip type, and cabin class. We send you the deals from your home airport, so you don’t need to scroll for hours for the best deal.
- Cons: you pay for a RatePunk membership first, where Nomad costs nothing until you book. We won’t plan a multi-stop route, which is the job Nomad does.
Should You Use Nomad or RatePunk?
If you know the cities and not the order, use Nomad. Reordering a six-city trip to find the cheapest permutation is a genuinely hard problem and Nomad is the only mainstream tool that solves it. Leave three hours between legs, travel with carry-on only, and do not use it for a trip that has to work on the day, like a wedding or a cruise departure.
If you know the airport and not the destination, use RatePunk. That is the trip a search engine is worst at, because you cannot search for somewhere cheap in March.
FAQ
How Much Can I Save with RatePunk on Flights?
It depends entirely on where you are flying from and how flexible you are, and anyone who gives you a single number is quoting a ceiling rather than an average. Every RatePunk deal has an AI deal score, which is the better guide because the itinerary’s quality goes into the score along with the price.
Does Nomad from Kiwi Work for Single Trips?
It works, but it is not what Nomad is for. With one destination there is no order to solve, so you are using a multi-city planner as an ordinary flight search and paying Kiwi’s service fee for the privilege. For a straightforward round-trip, a search engine will show you the same fares without the fee.
What Makes RatePunk Easy to Start With?
Start by choosing your home airport. With a RatePunk membership, the deals from that airport appear in our app on iPhone and Android, in English or Spanish, with prices in one of 10 currencies.
Can I Use Both Tools Together?
Yes, and they do not overlap. Use RatePunk to find out which cities are cheap to fly to from your home airport, then put those cities into Nomad to work out the order to visit them in. The one thing to watch is that Nomad’s cheapest answers are usually self-transfers, so the itinerary it builds may not use the fares in our deals.
